Monet Sketchbooks

In a joint venture with the Royal Academy of Art in London, the Clark Museum wanted a unique and scholarly interface to view a collection of Claude Monet’s sketchbooks, which were to be installed at the Clark as part of a touring exhibit. We developed an interface that allows users to zoom in very close to the images, and to spin them to see Monet’s work at different angles. There are eight notebooks, some of which have over a hundred pages, so XML wasn’t going to handle the data. We used Flash and php to keep it all organized.

The project was featured on the BBC, and placed second in the New England Museum Association’s awards in the website category.
