Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine are co-leaders of a consortium of researchers that are part of the Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AFIRM).

Insomnia Graphics was hired to design the pages to make the Wake Forest group stand out among the consortium. The client was pleased with the result.

The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty

We were thrilled to be picked to design and develop this marquee site for A&E, featuring none other than the remaining members of The Jackson 5.

This was a rare opportunity to really pull out all the stops. The directive was to try and capture the feeling before a big rock show, so we constructed and lit a 3D set with scaffolding, volumetric lights and a clever IK lighting rig.

We also developed a customizable flash app for the home page with 3D elements.

This project was awarded the IMA prize for outstanding achievement in the entertainment category.

OpenLAB Kinetic Type

This was our first big project with Partners+Simons out of Boston for the Pharmaceutical company Agilent. It’s a complicated 3D piece with more than 35 camera stops, real 3D objects (still new in After Effects) and some other cool touches.

The team at P+S gave some great art direction and lots of help along the way, but they also gave us the freedom to push the edges a bit. The client was happy, and we have gone on to do more projects together.

Whitney Farms Brand Splash

This was a fast turnaround project for CBX, a leading strategic marketing firm in New York City meant to promote Whitney Farms’ line of organic gardening products.

The client loved the video and has gone on to re-task it for many purposes.

The Young Turks

The Young Turks were the first original talk show on Sirius Satellite Radio and the first live, daily webcast on the internet. They are considered by many to be a cornerstone of the new progressive media.

When it came time to re-skin their site, Insomnia Graphics was hired to do the layouts and CSS.

Five Lives of Criss Angel

To highlight a series of death-defying stunts to be performed by Criss Angel, the team at A&E Interactive wanted to create an animated interface. A group of 3D coffins open and play animations based on the different stunts. The details are all controlled with XML, including text formatting and placement.

Ice Road Truckers Main Promos

The team at History Interactive designed a great new site in house for season 3 of Ice Road Truckers, but they needed a centerpiece for the show’s homepage. Insomnia Graphics was brought on to develop the main promo area. The producer had the idea to make it look like a windshield frosting over to wipe between items, and we brought that idea to life nicely.

They also required extreme flexibility — the ability to change not just copy and images but also the number of slides, how long they are on the stage, the kerning and font sizes, the color of mouse effects and more. It’s all edited by xml, without the need of a developer.

Gene Simmons Family Jewels

Back in 2005, Insomnia Graphics designed the mini-site for the first season of Gene Simmons family Jewels, and for season 4, A&E hired us to give the site a completely new look. The new art direction was based on a clean photo shoot with the family members shot on a white seamless. We decided to go with a look that focused on the characters in the family, so we stripped out all the design flourishes and left a clean, sparse look.

Along with the new imagery, we were also responsible for updating all the Flash elements. We built the main promo feature and the Cast page in Flash and updated with AS3 and XML. These pieces became the foundation for all the cast pages and main promos for A&E’s current group of websites.
